Facts: Our team is now thinking of what questions to set for the survey.
Idea:We should try to get everything done by the MArch holidays so we will have time to plan for the report and presentation.
Learning Issues: The final product is related to the research we are doing on.
Action plan: My group has thought of what to do for the final product and survey questions.

Facts: We have finished our research and are doing the work that we did not finish during the previous lessons.
Ideas: We should try to finish the work as fast as possible and plan for the next lesson.
Learning issues: We need to have a rough idea of the final product.
Action plan: I will do the work allocated to me and think about the final product.

This is my reflection on lesson 6:

Fact:
We all have done our research and now we are doing the worksheets.
Ideas: I think we can quickly finish our worksheets and try to start on the next lesson.
Learning Issues: i want to know how our final product is going to be like.
Action Plan: I could go on the internet to find some ideas on doing our final product.

How has the environment affected the food diets and food chains of the animal habitat?
Animals are adapted to eat the food that is in the environment that they live in. If there is a new animal introduced into the environment, the whole food chain and diets of animals living in that environment originally might be affected.
How does greenhouse gases affect the animals and their habitats?
The pollution that causes global warming is linked to acid rain. Acid rain gradually destroys almost everything it touches. Global warming is also causing many more fires that wipe out whole forests. This happens because global warming can make the earth very hot. In forests, some plants and trees can be so dry that they catch on fire.
The balance of gases in the habitat of animals.
Animals breathe in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide but trees breathe in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen when they photosynthesize, so the balance between these two gases is quite fixed, but due to greenhouse gases, the amount of carbon dioxide is slowly increasing and the amount of oxygen is slowly decreasing.
The intensity of light in the habitats of animals
Light filtered in from the canopy is the most variable physical factor in the forests, both in space and time.

Problems faced by Singapore Nature Reserve
-Singapore Nature Reserve had to have a capital and funds to develop the habitat of the nature reserve to make it suitable for certain species to make their homes in
-Visitors and tourist littered and frightened away many species of animals in the main catchment in Singapore Nature reserve.
-Visitors and tourist also destroyed the habitats due to curiousity and mischief. They also fed the animals with food that they should not have consumed or eaten.
-During the rainy season, the soil became waterlogged and it caused many of the plants there to wither and die indirectly causing harm to the animal's habitat.
-When there is a heavy storm, trees get blown and their trunks fall and indirectly destroy animal habitats and block the pathway.
-The ph level of the water also had to be taken in consideration for certain species to survive and adapt accordingly.

Facts: After choosing and dividing the guiding questions in the previous lesson, my group started on researching them today.
Ideas: We thought of doing a terrarium as our final product and visiting the nature reserve for more information.
Learning issues: I realise that the questions i picked were not that easy and had quite a hard time on researching them. Although in the end, i managed to complete 1 of them.
Action plan: I have to complete the other guiding question so that we have a basic information about the topic we are doing.

This is the research i've come up so far.

How Has the weather changed over the past few years?
How has the pH level of water affected the nature reserve/animals?
  • Acid rain lowers pH level of the soil to as low as 3. Thus, washing away nutrients our of the soil and damages the plant. Vegetation recovery there will be difficult.
  • Many plants grow in specific pH levels. Thus, soil is a important factor for their ecosystem and as many animals only eat specific plants.
  • Soil pH level affects the nutrients available in the soil. More nutrient availability increase plant growth and food supply to animals.
  • Increased nutrient availability increases nutrient supply within the plant. Animals consuming the plant would require less plant material for their nutritional needs. Thus, allowing animals to grow faster and increase their population.

6:02 PM

Facts: Today I mainly finished up and summarized the research i had done.
Ideas: We are thought to make a trip to the nature reserve.
Learning Issues: I want to go deeper into the questions and think out of the box
Action Plan: Ask everyone do complete their research so that we can put it together and discuss.

Done by: Ming Yao (9) 2D

5:54 PM

Facts: We started researching on our guiding questions today on the internet.
Ideas: I can go on the internet to search for the answers to my guiding questions.
Learning issues:I found out that finding research about my question is quite a challenge.
Action plan: I will try harder to find out the answers to my guiding questions.
Done by: Sean Heng (12) 2D

5:35 PM

Facts:We continued our research on our tasks given respectively and carried on with the next week's lesson
Ideas: We will try to come out with more ideas and research if possible to extend the range of our information and intelligence capacity.
Learning Issues: I found out that it was impossible to find out how human activity would affect singapore nature reserves as there is no illegal hunting of animals or any other activity going on there.
Action Plan: I tweaked the question and instead did research on how tourists and visitors there affected the nature reserve directly or indirectly
